Description:

Auschwitz Birkenau is a place where Nazis created the biggest concentration and death camp . During the war about 1,1 million people were killed in this place, mostly Jews from different European countries. The name Auschwitz is a german version of the town Oswiecim in polish. Auschwitz was liberated in January 1945 by Soviet’s army. Auschwitz – Birkenau is listed at UNESCO Heritage Site

This concentration camp was divided into 3 parts: KL Auschwitz (Auschwitz I), Birkenau camp (Auschwitz II) and Monowitz. Nowadays it is possible to visit 2 parts – Auschwitz and Birkenau. It is possible to see approximately 150 original buildings and barracks, 300 ruins fences, towers, roads and railway ramps. This tour is not recommended for the teenagers under 16 years old.

Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum

You will first visit the main camp in Oświęcim – Auschwitz I. The museum organizes guided tours in a group by museum educators only.

Auschwitz II-Birkenau

After visiting Auschwitz I, you will go to the other part called Birkenau – a death camp with an original barracks, towers and remains of crematories or gas chambers.

Return to Krakow

It is around 1 hour 15 min drive back. On the way back to Krakow I can recommend a Polish traditional restaurant.
